Iulia_Danciu

Iulia Danciu graduated in Biochemistry and Medical Research at the Faculty of Biology, University of Bucharest, with a thesis concerning the possible applications of nanoparticles in cancer therapy. She continued her studies at the same university with a Master in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, with a thesis on detection of hepatitis viruses through molecular biology techniques.  Iulia demonstrated to be an outstanding student, with solid background in biochemistry and molecular biology. She has been appointed by EMBL group within the IDPbyNMR project.

Project Topic
Complementary tools to study IDPs
Brief Project Description
The project will explore the new directions in understanding the role of intrinsically disordered proteins (IDPs) or of structured proteins with intrinsically disordered regions (IDRs) involved in molecular pathways with implication in various kinds of human disorders, likecancer, type II diabetes, Alzheimer, Parkinson or cardiovascular diseases. Since the heterogeneity of IDPs and IDRs still raises barriers in describing their structures, the Small Angle X-ray Scattering (SAXS) technique will be employed in this project, as a highly complementary structural approach to NMR, allowing us to quantitatively characterize IDPs in solution.
