Short description about BIO

BioTalentum Ltd. is a research start-up company established in 2005. Focus areas of the activities for BIO are animal biotechnologies, including stem cell research, transgenic cellular and animal models. The company has a mission of research and development of new animal models and cellular systems for biomedical research and drug testing, and to provide technical services for research teams and pharmaceutical industry based on its state-of-the-art technological know-how. The main source of income for the company is from such services, provided on a competitive commercial basis.

Role
Provide expertise on cells 1) to move towards the atomic level characterization of IDPs in cells and 2) to provide evidence of the role of IDPs in cells.

Key competences and facilities
Stem cell research: targeting construct design: Gene Knock-Outs, Transgenic vectors; Genotyping Assay and Screening Strategy Development; production of pluripotent cell lines in various species. Molecular Biology: Transgenic and Viral Vector construction; RT-PCRs; Selection and Cloning of the Transfected Cell Population to Generate Stable Lines.

Key persons
Andras Dinnyes, is the co-founder and director of BIO. He has been working on embryology, cloning and stem cell biology since 1985. In 2000 he joined the NT team in Roslin Institute (the „Dolly team”) as team leader, under the guidance of Sir Ian Wilmut and his team succeeded in the production of the first gene knock-out lamb, and the first cloned piglet in Europe. He was advisor for Geron Inc, US on stem cell and NT technology. In 2001 he has returned to Hungary, and obtained the Doctor of Sciences degree, and a “habilitated” full professorship. He was a Wellcome Trust International Senior Research Fellow with a project on mouse and rabbit NT research. He was the leader of a “Marie Curie Excellence Grant” team and co-ordinator of a FP6 STREP project and a MC Research Training network with 10 partners with his academic team. He has an MBA-level degree in management, and several years of international experience in project and team management. Melinda Pirity (molecular and cell biology, stem cell research, gene targeting and transgenic approaches). She is leader of the Stem Cell Research Group of BIO. Further Senior Scientists: Anita Feher, Olga Ujhelly, Csilla Nemes, Krisztina Tar.

Previous training programs and research
The company is very active in European and international research, as BIO is full research partner in four FP6 projects (MEDRAT (STREP), CLONET (MC RTN), ARTEMIS (SME-specific STREP), AGLAEA (SMEspecific STREP)) and in two FP7 projects (NAD - large scale collaborative; RESOLVE - large scale collaborative); and as coordinator for three FP7 projects (PluriSys – medium size Collaborative Project and PartnErS – MC IAPP, InduStem– MC IAPP). These projects provide an intensive interaction with ERA teams from both academia and industry. Furthermore, BIO has a branch specialized on project management for biomedical research, and provides such services for national and EU FP7 projects.
